My Bio

Hello Neighbors!

I’m Gabriela Kroetch, a proud Savage resident, wife, mother, and immigrant running for Scott County Commissioner in District 5.

As an immigrant who came to this country in search of opportunity, I deeply understand the importance of a welcoming, safe, and thriving community where every family can succeed — regardless of where they come from. That perspective has shaped how I see our shared future in Savage.

My husband Josh and I have built our lives here over the past 16 years. Both of our daughters attended local public schools, and I’ve been actively involved in our community as a longtime volunteer coach for their soccer, volleyball, and golf teams from elementary school through high school. Professionally, I spent years developing sales and marketing strategies that helped grow my husband’s business across five states. I also served on the PLSAS Curriculum Committee and currently serve as a Board Member of a local Minnesota organization focused on developing leadership opportunities for women.

These experiences have given me a clear understanding of what Savage families truly need: strong schools, safe neighborhoods, support for local businesses, responsible growth, and government that delivers essential services without unnecessary tax increases. I’m passionate about protecting our families, maintaining the quality of life we value, and making practical decisions that work for everyone in our community.

I’m running for Commissioner because Scott County deserves experienced, collaborative leadership that puts the needs of Savage families first and focuses on solving real problems together.

My Key Issues

Smart Growth and Infrastructure

We must manage growth responsibly, so Savage retains its character while improving roads, parks, and community facilities. I will focus on practical infrastructure solutions that serve current residents without imposing massive tax increases. My main focus will be on: Responsible development and land use planning (especially in growing areas like Savage). Roads, bridges, parks, and utility infrastructure to keep up with population growth. Balancing new development with preserving community character and avoiding overburdening taxpayers.

Public Safety

Safe neighborhoods are the foundation of a strong community. I will support our law enforcement officers and first responders; I will work to improve emergency response times and implement common-sense strategies to prevent crime and keep Savage families secure. My main focus will be on: Funding and supporting the Sheriff’s Office, emergency services, and jail operations. Crime prevention, juvenile justice, and community safety programs. Addressing rising costs in law enforcement while maintaining response times.

Property Taxes

Savage families are working harder than ever, yet property taxes continue to rise. As commissioner, I will fight for smarter spending, eliminate waste, and prioritize essential services so we can provide real tax relief for homeowners, seniors, and families. Controlling the county levy and the overall tax burden on residents. Responding to an 8.73% preliminary 2026 levy projection by finding ways to stabilize or reduce increases. Pushing back against unfunded state mandates that force counties to raise property taxes to cover state programs. Roads, bridges, parks, and utility infrastructure to keep up with population growth. Balancing new development with preserving community character and avoiding overburdening taxpayers.

Transparency and Accountability

Savage residents deserve open and responsive government. I will prioritize clear communication, public engagement, and practical decision-making that puts Savage families first and earns the trust of all our neighbors. My main goals in this area will be: Open government and public engagement. Efficient use of taxpayer dollars and long-term budgeting.

Human Services and Family Support

Strong families are the heart of our community. I will advocate for accessible mental health resources and family support services that help parents and children thrive, especially in times of need, so we can build healthier and more resilient neighborhoods. My vision in this area is: Improved child protection, foster care, mental health, and aging services. Managing costs in social services while improving outcomes (prevention programs vs. expensive deep-end interventions).
